PAINTINGS
Cromer Beach, Norfolk.
I remember this day clearly as I was on holiday with my wife, youngest daughter Katie and my parents and the weather was the sort that we nearly always suffered when we went away, rainy and blowing a gale. However, I felt the subject had possibilities and with the aid of an out of focus photograph and a sketch hastily done in biro on the back of a more sunny Cromer postcard, completed this watercolour back in the comfort of my studio.
The paper is left white for the surf and is accentuated by the darks of the groin, the beach and sea. The misty headland and dark inky sky only serve to show what a damn awful day it really was.
